Although it is not a neighborhood, it is popularly called that way (it is divided between the neighborhoods of Balvanera and Almagro)
It owes its name to the old Mercado del Abasto in Buenos Aires (1893 its first part was inaugurated). Its façade, which remains intact, received awards for its architectural design, something new for the time.
It was forced to close its doors (by law) when the Central Market of Buenos Aires was created, losing the neighborhood one of its reference points par excellence.
Currently, the Shopping Abasto (one of the most important shopping centers in Argentina) operates, returning to the area the vitality that it knew how to have in the past and turning it into a tourist spot to enjoy.

Museo de los niños:
located inside the shopping center is an ideal program to mix shopping with entertainment. It is located on the second floor and recreates a city where children can play at being doctors, photographers, bakers, sailors, etc.

Pasaje y Museo Carlos Gardel:
The passage is found when leaving the mall and is extremely picturesque, between steaks, cobblestones and restaurants to end up in what was the house of Carlos Gardel, the best known tango singer of all time.

Polo Gastronómico Plaza Houssay:
the renovated Plaza Houssay has it all. From a skatepark, a square for boys, soccer field and basketball. To this we must add the gastronomic premises and a cinema. Many take the opportunity to take photos of the impressive murals of the Hospital de Clinicas that pay tribute to the Amia attacks.

Palacio Barolo:
The entire building is inspired by Dante Alghieri’s Divine Comedy full of symbolism, metaphors and legends. In its upper part it has a rotating lighthouse which can be accessed through the guided tour. It also has a roof bar with incredible views.

Teatro Colón:
elected the most beautiful lyrical theater in the world, for its architecture, its acoustics and its theatrical art. In addition to Ballet and Opera performances, it usually surprises with unforgettable shows like in this 2022 where the orchestra of the Empire strikes back played live while the film was projected.
